Day 82: Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

We were told that our bus ride was going to be 9 hours, that is why we booked the sleeper bus. It turns out that the bus ride was barely 6 hours, so we arrived in Saigon extremely tired and distorted. We found a good coffee spot to help us wake up and used the wifi to find a good place to stay.

Once we got settled in, Boyd and I set off to see a part of the town while Robbie slept. My first impression of Saigon was not a good one, just a massive concrete jungle. However, I later learned that we took a wrong turn out of the hostel and were walking towards the more business side. The opposite direction from the touristy area.

That night we met up with a friend of a friend who has been living in Saigon with his Vietnamese wife helping to run Zoom Cafe, a great restaurant that also hosts tours of the city on vintage Italian mopeds. He spent his younger years traveling parts of the world and was happy to show us a great time and hear our story while we were just as eager to hear his!

We bounced all around Saigon and eventually met up with two American expats working for Intel in Saigon. We were able to see a great side of Saigon, the local one, and didn't see a tourist all night. Eating bird eggs and drinking beer with locals on the side of the street can top any night partying with fellow travelers
