Day 74: Dong Hoi

When we arrived in Dong Hoi, as you can imagine, we needed some rest. We found a good young hostel where we were able to meet some people to give us advice about our trip to the south.

There really wasn't much to do in Dong Hoi, it was a rather empty city. We rented mopeds and cruised around to see the area. Our hostel was right by the inlet. The city and the beach were really beautiful, but I still don't understand why the place was empty. The beach was lined with little restaurants with straw roofing, serving cold beer. Who wouldn't want to be here? Regardless, we had the beach to ourselves.

We decided it would be a good idea to take our mopeds on the beach and try to drive down the harder area closer to the water... Our street mopeds were no match for the loose sand. It proved to be rather difficult for us to make it very far, we were constantly getting bogged down in the sand and found ourselves pushing the bikes off the beach when it was all said and done.

Our original plan was to join a group of girls on a home stay out in the farms for two nights and go swimming in a cave. Unfortunately, we had to bail on the girls. We are meeting people in Bangkok on April the 18th, so our remaining time in Vietnam is limited and we would prefer to spend more of our time on the beaches in the south.

Nothing really happened today, in my mind, it was a waste of a day. However, it was a good pit stop on our way to Hoi An.
